Invisible Fence of the Upstate Donates Pet Oxygen Masks to FD

The Whitefield Fire Department received a pet oxygen mask kit donated from Invisible Fence of the Upstate at its June 5 meeting.

The masks, developed by veterinarians, will help resuscitate animals found in burning homes.  The kit includes several cup-shaped masks that seal tightly around an animal’s muzzle, which helps firefighters deliver the proper amount of oxygen and protects them from being bitten by frightened animals.

Information provided by Invisible Fence estimates that as many as 150,000 pets die each year in fires, most succumbing to smoke inhalation.  This donation is part of a national effort called Project Breathe—designed to equip fire stations across the U.S. and Canada. Invisible Fence brand has a commitment to pet safety that extends beyond electronic pet containment by funding deserving projects that help to save the lives of pets.  Over 330 kits were donated to South Carolina first responders last year.

Downed power line sparks one-acre woods fire

On March 17, Engine 22 and Brush 22 responded to a report of a downed power line on Opt Rd.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find a woods fire stretching alongside a majority of the short road that connects Old Williamston Rd to Highway 29 North.  Additional units from Whitefield and Broadway fire departments, along with SC Forestry were dispatched to assist with exposure protection of several nearby residences and to provide additional manpower to extinguish the fire.
